I don't usually have the sound on when I use my computer, but I was really getting into all of the positive feedback while playing a game of Bejeweled Blitz on Facebook. "Awesome," "Excellent," "Good Job," and other such phrases were giving me a thrill when all of the sudden I heard "Time's Up." The joy drained from my brain as reality hit. My score was low and I didn't improve my ranking one bit. I wasn't doing that well at all.
This happens in real life as well. Praise is great and encouragement is needed, but they become meaningless when evenly showered on everyone. Maybe I should have been hearing "plan your next move before making this one," "Don't get greedy, take points available now," "Start at the bottom and move up for the most possibilities," etc. so that I would be learning to play better.
Am I willing to hear criticism that will help me be a better person? Am I willing to work at a skill diligently until my ability is worthy of praise? Am I willing to share observations that will help someone else?
